Two farmers from Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, share how their rice-growing practices and lives have changed after adopting the IRRI drumseeder. They demonstrate how they modified the drumseeder to suit their needs, how they prepare their land and seeds, and how they now manage their weeds.
These farmers were part of participatory activities done by the
Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (IRRC: http://irri.org/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&t… ) of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI; http://irri.org ) in a collaborative project Improving rice productivity in South and Southeast Sulawesi funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR; http://aciar.gov.au ).
The farmers' stories were captured using a participatory video approach introduced by Digital Green ( http://www.digitalgreen.org ). Guided by a local facilitator, the farmers themselves created the storyboard. The farmers' interviews in this video were not scripted and were based on their acquired knowledge of the technologies introduced.
